PRO-FORMA
Overview
Prescribing Services Ltd (PSL) have been centrally contracted by NHSE to support the CEW services. Complications of Excess Weight (CEW) services are a variety of clinics and services with multi-disciplinary teams teams delivering support for children and young people with excess weight and/or various comorbidities. CEW clinics adopt a holistic approach to treating conditions related to obesity in children and young people aged 2- 17 years old.
As part of this arrangement, PSL is working with the ENHANCE (Evaluating the NHs englANd Complications of Excess Weight services for children and young people) research team to support the distribution of a survey which will provide valuable information about patient involvement and satisfaction with CEW services, particularly in relation to the referral process and patient journey. Results from this survey will be used to help ENHANCE gather vital information on the effectiveness of these clinics, areas for improvement, and their cost-effectiveness for the NHS.
The study has been given ethical approval by the Sheffield Hallam University Research ethics team on 10/09/2024 (ethics reference number ER66684428)
Patient Cohort
This survey is intended for children and young people who are eligible for CEW clinics. Children ages 8+ are anticipated to be able to complete the survey with the help of an adult. Carers and parents are also welcome to complete the survey on behalf of the patient. Two different versions of the survey are offered: one for children and young people to fill out and one for parents or carers.
Patient Engagement
Patients and their parents or carers will be able to complete this optional survey through a digital support service that is fully integrated into the CEW dashboard.
If a clinic consents to Eclipse reaching out to patients on behalf of the clinic, patients will receive an SMS containing a link to a lander page with further information on the study and access to complete the survey digitally. Participants may also choose to complete the survey over the telephone with an ENHANCE representative. Upon completion of the survey, all participants are offered a £5 Amazon voucher. Survey participants will be invited to complete the survey again after 12 months have passed, regardless of their continued participation in the CEW programme.
